Short answer? Because it’s the client’s right to decide when they come in and when they don’t. Of course, no-showing or multiple cancellations in less than 24 hours means I won’t be able to hold the client’s appointment time and may not give them first call on rescheduling. I might not reschedule them, at all.
But clients always get to decide when they need to come in and when they’re finished with therapy.
Sometimes it’s hard for clients to say this to their therapist’s face. I get that, but I want clients to know that they have the power. We don’t require a set number of sessions and we don’t tell clients what to do.
Your life. You should be the one calling the shots…even if you aren’t sure right away which shots to call
